Drawing Boundaries

The 25th of December brings families together in the culmination of a few weeks of chaos. Feelings are high, nerves are frayed. Drawing boundaries is a critical part of managing appropriate relationships.

Man is an animal.

Animals are territorial.

We each have a personal space within which we do not like most people to encroach. Drawing our boundaries can be a long time coming, but when we do this directly and appropriately it makes for good relating.

So, good relating starts with drawing clear boundaries. Some people are better at this than others. Some prefer by non-verbal means but a verbal distinction in a firm manner and timed appropriately will suffice. In most instances this will be achieved by the subconscious.
