An equal distribution of weight.

The phrase of the Day, the nom du jour, is equipoise. Everyone is, seemingly, in equipoise. No-one can make up their bloody minds or take a definite stand.

Equipoise, as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary (online), is a state of equilibrium, a point of counterbalance. It can be used as noun, signifying the state of being in equipoise, or (transitive) verb, acting in a measured or balanced way. It was first used in 1658.

Another, equally obscure but related word, is “counterpoise” or just plain “poise”, “balance”, or “stasis”.

Equipoise happens to also be the trade name of the anabolic steroid boldenone undecylenate, as the molecule was originally used in veterinary medicine. It is also marketed as Boldebolin, amongst other names. Equipoise was a famous thoroughbred of the 20’s and 30’s. Prior to that, it was used as the trade name for a corset.

Finally, Equipoise is the name of an ale produced by the Jester King Brewery of Austin, Texas.
