Zechariah

In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying …

The young boy Zechariah was with the 43,000 returnees from Babylonian exile following the decree of King Cyrus. Now in his 20’s, he prophesies to an audience of the governor of Judea (Zerubbabel), the high priest (Joshua),  and the senior prophet (Haggai), in 520 BC.

Historical timeline of the events of Zechariah

Consider the Book of Zechariah video series published by Theresa Garcia Ministries. To aid in understanding, Theresa Garcia has conveniently divided the book into five parts:

  1. Introduction (Zech. 1:1-6)
  2. Eight visions in one night (Zech. 1:7 – 6:15)
  3. Importance of Fasting (Zech. chapters 7 & 8)
  4. First burden regarding Israel (Zech. chapters 9-11)
  5. Second burden regarding Israel (Zech. chapters 12-14)

The series of eight visions on the night of February 15, 519 BC — Mrs Garcia explains — form a connected picture of the future of Israel from that time to the ultimate completion of the kingdom of God and return of Messiah, and as such she considers the book an indispensable guide to End-Time prophetic fulfilment, along with the books of Daniel and Revelation.
